DETROIT, MI – The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt EV has delivered nearly 300 miles of real-world range during independent testing, exceeding its official EPA rating by more than 30 miles, all at a starting price below $30,000. The results, released today, position the compact electric car as a game-changer in the affordable EV segment.
Real-World Range Exceeds EPA Estimate
The Bolt EV traveled 298 miles on a single charge in mixed driving conditions, compared to the EPA's certified 268-mile range. The test was conducted by automotive engineering firm GreenDrive Analytics on public roads in Michigan.
"This is a significant overshoot," said Dr. Emily Ross, a battery researcher at the University of Michigan. "Real-world range often falls short of EPA numbers, so beating them by 11% is remarkable."
Background: From Underdog to Leader
Chevrolet first launched the Bolt in 2017 as a long-range affordable EV. The 2027 model represents the third generation, featuring a redesigned battery pack and improved thermal management system.
"The Bolt has always been a value-play, but earlier versions had range anxiety issues," noted auto analyst Mark Patterson of AutoTrends. "With this test, GM is signaling they've solved that."
